In a major milestone for Nigeria’s power sector, Sahara Power Group, in partnership with Crescendough, has officially commissioned the 180-megawatt Afam II Power Plant in Rivers State. The newly completed facility is now fully operational and connected to the national grid, offering a significant boost to electricity supply across the region and beyond.
The launch ceremony was marked by a ribbon-cutting event attended by senior executives, government officials, and industry stakeholders. The event symbolized the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to improve energy access and promote sustainable infrastructure development.
According to Sahara Power Group, the Afam II Plant is designed to provide reliable electricity to homes, commercial centers, and industrial hubs — a critical step toward addressing Nigeria’s long-standing power supply challenges.
“This project is a testament to what public-private partnerships can achieve. It’s not just about powering homes — it’s about empowering lives, communities, and economies,” said one of the executives during the event.
The plant’s activation is part of a broader vision to increase national energy capacity while transitioning toward more responsible and efficient power generation. With an output of 180MW, the Afam II facility is expected to significantly improve the reliability of power delivery in Nigeria, supporting economic growth and improved quality of life for millions.
