The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has started a community engagement initiative in Rivers State aimed at reducing the vandalism of power lines. As part of this effort, TCN recently held a meeting with youths from the Igbu Ehuda community in Ahoada East and Ahoada West.
During this meeting, representatives of the Igbu Ehuda youths, including Benjamin Emmanuel, met with the TCN team, which included Engr. Emmanuel Akpa. The Igbu Ehuda youths promised to help protect the power lines in their area. Their commitment came in response to the significant power outages caused by vandalism in Bayelsa State and Port Harcourt.
Community members suggested that employing local youths could be a way to prevent future vandalism. Engr. Akpa, representing TCN, assured them that their requests for job opportunities and better security measures would be considered.
This community engagement is part of TCN’s broader plan to educate people about the importance of safeguarding power infrastructure.
