Gas Explosion Injures Several, Destroys Vehicles in Port Harcourt

A gas explosion in the Air Force area of Port Harcourt on Friday left several people injured and destroyed more than eight vehicles, including those belonging to an interstate transport company.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying but confirmed that no fatalities were recorded. The Rivers State Fire Service arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the fire in under 30 minutes.

Those injured were rushed to the Air Force Hospital for medical attention.

One of the victims, Anthony Ofoke, a supervisor at the transport company, spoke with our correspondent and urged the government to prohibit the location of gas stations in residential neighborhoods.

As of the time of this report, the cause of the explosion remains unclear, and the operators of the gas facility have declined to speak to the press.
