President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has showered praise on Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their thrilling WAFCON 2024 victory, describing their 10th continental title as a powerful source of national pride and inspiration.
In a video call with the jubilant team after their dramatic 3-2 comeback win over host nation Morocco, President Tinubu commended their fighting spirit and resilience, noting that their triumph had united and uplifted the entire country.
“As a team, we are very proud of you; the entire nation is proud of you,” he said. “You lifted our spirits, and we are all very happy. To win the WAFCON title for the 10th time is a remarkable achievement for Nigeria and for Africa.”
The President assured the team of a hero’s welcome upon their return to Nigeria, applauding not only the players but also the coaching crew, support staff, and officials for their role in the historic feat.
Tinubu singled out Rasheedat Ajibade, who was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, and Esther Okoronkwo, whose calm execution of a crucial penalty and match-defining assist helped seal the Falcons’ comeback.
“Safe journey home, enjoy yourselves, avoid injuries, and God bless you,” the President said, as the players responded with cheers and chants of appreciation.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, speaking for the team, expressed gratitude to the President for his support and fulfillment of players’ allowances. She promised to personally present the trophy to him in Abuja.
The call ended with a spirited rendition of the national anthem and three resounding “Gbosa!” cheers, reflecting the pride and joy of a nation celebrating its champions.
