Fresh from their historic 10th WAFCON title win, Nigeria’s Super Falcons were celebrated in grand style by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In recognition of their hard-fought 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON 2025 final, President Tinubu honoured all 24 players and 11 technical crew members with national awards — the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The team was also gifted:
A three-bedroom apartment each in the Renewed Hope Estate
$100,000 in naira equivalent for each player
$50,000 in naira equivalent for each technical crew member
President Tinubu, speaking during the reception, light-heartedly shared that he avoided watching the final live “to avoid high blood pressure,” underscoring the thrilling nature of the match.
Also joining in the celebration, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara State, awarded an extra N10 million to each team member.
The team, led by captain and MVP Rasheedat Ajibade, was warmly received at the Villa by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, shortly before 4:36 p.m. on Monday.
This win marks the Falcons’ fourth WAFCON title in 10 years, reinforcing Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
