Dame Patience Jonathan Receives Honorary Degree in Rivers State

Over the weekend Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rivers State held its convocation ceremony and the former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the university.

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) conferred the honorary Doctor of Education (Honoris Causa) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, gender advocacy, and humanitarian service across Nigeria. The award also acknowledged her longstanding commitment to empowering women and supporting underprivileged communities through various philanthropic initiatives.

Dame Patience Jonathan expressed gratitude for the honor, emphasizing the importance of education in nation-building. “This recognition is not just for me, but for every Nigerian woman striving to make a difference in our society,” she said during her acceptance speech.

The Vice-Chancellor of IAUE praised Dame Jonathan’s efforts in promoting literacy and education, particularly through her work with the Women for Change and Development Initiative, a non-governmental organization she founded during her tenure as First Lady.

The convocation ceremony was attended by university staff, students, dignitaries, and invited guests, who lauded the former First Lady’s enduring legacy in public service.

With this honor, Dame Patience Jonathan joins a distinguished list of personalities recognized by IAUE for their impact on society through education, leadership, and philanthropy.
