Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, are through to the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket after a thrilling 75–68 win over arch-rivals Senegal.
The pulsating semifinal clash took place at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Côte d’Ivoire and lived up to its billing as a “final before the final,” with both teams showcasing top-level basketball.
Senegal started strong with an early 11–2 lead, but D’Tigress responded with a 13–0 run, finishing the first quarter ahead 22–17. Nigeria edged a tight second quarter 21–20 to lead 43–37 at halftime, capped off by a buzzer-beater three-pointer from Victoria Thiaw.
Senegal came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring Nigeria 21–9 to take a 58–52 lead. But true to their champion status, D’Tigress turned the tide in the final quarter, delivering a strong performance on both ends of the court to secure the hard-fought victory.
The result means D’Tigress will play in the final as they continue their push for a record fifth consecutive Afrobasket title.
