Elon Musk Launches ‘The America Party’ Following Fallout with Trump

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has unveiled a new political movement, “The America Party,” in what appears to be a bold move to challenge the traditional dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States.

The announcement, made via Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter), comes on the heels of a public fallout with U.S. President Donald Trump, which led to Musk’s resignation from a top government role.

Although Musk is ineligible to run for U.S. president due to his South African birth, he remains a powerful political influencer. In a recent poll conducted on X, users overwhelmingly backed the creation of a new political party. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk declared, criticizing America’s two-party system as corrupt and inefficient. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he added.

No Clear Leadership Yet

As of Saturday, there’s no official record showing that The America Party has been registered with U.S. electoral authorities. Musk has also not announced who will lead the party or contest in upcoming elections. Historically, third-party efforts in U.S. politics have struggled to break the stronghold of the two main parties.

Breakup with Trump

Musk, once a strong ally of Donald Trump and former head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), reportedly donated $250 million to support Trump’s campaign. But their alliance began to crumble in May after Musk stepped down and publicly slammed a newly signed tax and spending bill backed by Trump.

The controversial bill, projected to add over $3 trillion to the U.S. deficit, also failed to provide any climate-related incentives — a key issue for Musk, whose companies like Tesla stand to benefit from green energy subsidies.

Their feud went public when Trump lashed out on his Truth Social platform, claiming Musk had benefited more from government subsidies “than any human being in history.” Trump further suggested using Doge to investigate Musk’s businesses, including SpaceX and Starlink, both of which hold major government contracts.

Whether “The America Party” gains traction remains to be seen, but Musk’s entry into partisan politics is already stirring major debate in the U.S. political space.
