Gunmen Attack OSPAC Office in Ahoada East, Kill SIS Operative

A deadly attack rocked Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State late Monday night, as unidentified gunmen stormed the Onelga Security Peace and Advisory Committee (OSPAC) office located behind the council secretariat. The assault led to the death of Corporal Friday Francis, a Special Intervention Squad (SIS) operative.

Residents reported heavy gunfire around 9 p.m., sending panic across the community. Corporal Francis was killed in the crossfire near the secretariat’s perimeter, sparking outrage and renewed fears over growing insecurity in the area.

The attackers fled before security personnel arrived, and though no group has claimed responsibility, authorities suspect cult-related violence. The incident comes days after another attack targeting a council administrator in the state.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, who visited the scene Tuesday morning, condemned the killing and ordered an intensified crackdown on cultists and criminal networks in the area.

“This is a direct attack on the peace and security structure of this community,” he warned. “We will hunt them down.”

The police have increased patrols across the Ahoada axis and are urging residents to share useful information that could lead to arrests. Investigations are ongoing.
