International Women’s Day: Meet the women that has made Rivers State proud

As we mark the International women’s day every year, we decided to present to you some women that have made Rivers State proud and represented the state well from various sectors.

Dr Ngozi Ordu

She is currently the deputy Governor of Rivers State and has been thriving so well in the political sector. She was elected alongside Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election.

Dr. Odu’s career spans academia and public service. She has held various academic positions, contributing significantly to the field of microbiology and food science. Her involvement in public service includes roles aimed at improving public health and education within Rivers State

Dr. Ngozi Nma Odu’s diverse background in science, education, and governance positions her as a key figure in Rivers State’s ongoing development.

Agbani Darego

Agbani Darego is a beauty queen that has thrived so well in the beauty and fashion industry. She won the Miss World crown in 2001 and was the first Black woman ever to get the title. Since after getting the Miss World title she got fully committed into the fashion industry and worked for many fashion brands both local and International.

She founded her personal brand AD by Agbani Darego, a fashion brand that is focused on stylish and affordable denim. She has Continued to inspire young African women in fashion, beauty, and self-confidence.

Agbani Darego remains a celebrated figure in Nigeria and across Africa, symbolizing grace, intelligence, and breaking boundaries in the global beauty industry.

Hilda Dokubo

She is known for her acting career especially emotional roles and has thrived so well in the movie industry apart from acting she is an activist and a politician.

Hilda Dokubo is a strong advocate for women’s rights, youth empowerment, and good governance. She has served some political leader in Rivers state, very vocal about political and social issues, including gender equality, domestic violence, and corruption.

Known for using her platform to speak out against injustice in Nigeria. Respected as one of Nollywoods finest actresses and a role model for young women in the entertainment industry.

Hilda Dokubo remains a powerful voice in both Nollywood and Nigerian activism.

Mercy Chinwo

She is one of the leading gospel singer in Nigeria and also an actress. Her success story started from the Nigeria idol stage were she won in 2012. She is well known for her beret and decent style which has inspired many young gospel artists.

Mercy Chinwo is regarded as one of the most influential gospel artists in Africa, with millions of fans worldwide. Her music continues to inspire worshippers across denominations.

Ngozi Ebere

Ngozi Ebere is a professional footballer who plays as a defender. She began her career with the Rivers Angels, contributing to their domestic double victory in 2014. Ebere has also played for international clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (2015-2017) and Arna-Bjørnar in Norway (2019). She has been a vital member of the Nigeria women’s national team, participating in the 2015 FIFA Women’s world Cup and winning the African Women’s Championship in 2014 and 2016.
