Commends CNG Tanker Rollout, Urges Fair Implementation Across Regions
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Rivers State Chapter, has thrown its weight behind the recent announcement by Dangote Petroleum Refinery to commence free distribution of petrol and diesel nationwide starting August 15, 2025.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, IPMAN Rivers Chairman, Tekena Ikpaki, described the initiative as “bold, strategic, and impactful,” saying it addresses some of the most pressing challenges faced by independent marketers, including erratic supply, high transportation costs, and limited access to competitive product sources.
“This is a welcome development that will bring great relief to marketers and consumers alike,” Ikpaki stated. “It enhances supply options, lowers costs, and introduces healthy competition into the system.”
IPMAN Rivers particularly commended the decision by Dangote Refinery to deploy 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers, calling it a forward-thinking investment that will ease logistics while aligning with global environmental standards.
“This is not just about free fuel—it’s about transforming how we distribute fuel across the country,” the association noted.
The group believes the initiative will provide a viable alternative to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), helping to break monopoly concerns and promote a more stable and competitive petroleum distribution market.
IPMAN Rivers also called on government regulators to ensure that the program is implemented transparently and equitably across all regions, stressing the need to protect the interests of independent marketers throughout the country.
“This should not benefit only a few. There must be fairness in allocation and access, so that all stakeholders, regardless of location or size, are carried along,” Ikpaki said.
The association also expressed strong support for complementary efforts like the NNPCL’s Crude-for-Naira initiative, aimed at stabilizing the naira and ensuring steady fuel supply.
Together, IPMAN Rivers stated, these efforts point to a renewed national commitment to energy security, economic recovery, and industry collaboration.
“We remain committed to working with Dangote Refinery, NNPCL, and regulators to ensure that this initiative delivers real, lasting benefits to the market and to ordinary Nigerians,” the IPMAN Rivers chairman concluded.
