NDDC Board Commissions Key Projects in Abam, Okrika—Chairman Ebie Calls for Community Ownership

The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Governing Board, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, says the Board is committed to accelerating development across the Niger Delta through effective project delivery.

Mr. Ebie made this known at Abam in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State during the official commissioning of a new Police Station, Health Centre, Recreational Centre, and a network of roads executed by the Commission.

He urged residents to take ownership of the projects and ensure the facilities are protected from vandalism. He also revealed that the Commission has procured a brand-new operational van for the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), which will be handed over once a new DPO is posted to the area.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering on the expectations of Niger Delta communities in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dr. Ogbuku said the inauguration of the projects was part of activities marking the President’s second year in office. He emphasized the need for peace in host communities to enable sustainable development, disclosing that President Tinubu had directed the NDDC to complete all ongoing projects without delay.

He gave assurance that the Okrika–Borokiri road project would be completed expeditiously. The MD also acknowledged the support of the NDDC Board, National Assembly, and the people of the region in achieving the Commission’s development goals. He commended security agencies for their vital role in safeguarding NDDC project sites.

Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, in his remarks, noted the excitement of the Okrika people over the newly completed projects and appealed for the speedy completion of the Borokiri–Okrika bridge to link the community with Port Harcourt city.

Providing technical details of the projects, Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, said the road network spans approximately 4.5 kilometers, while the Police Station features an armory, offices, a conference room, and separate male and female cells.

Sir Antai emphasized that the projects were designed to foster community development and improve the quality of life for residents. He commended the cooperation of the community and noted that residents had pledged to maintain the facilities.
