A major breakthrough in the fight against criminality has been recorded in Rivers State as operatives of the Rumuji Police Division successfully neutralized a notorious gang leader, David Uzoma Kamalu, popularly known as “M-Kaze.”
According to the Rivers State Police Command, the operation was the result of sustained intelligence gathering that led officers to a suspected criminal hideout in Rumuodogu 1 Community, Emohua Local Government Area. Upon arrival, police operatives encountered heavy gunfire from the gang, triggering a fierce shootout.
In the ensuing exchange, M-Kaze was fatally wounded, while several of his gang members escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. Recovered from the scene were a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, and a collection of local charms believed to have been used for protection and intimidation.
End of a Reign of Terror
M-Kaze had long been on the police radar as a high-value target linked to numerous violent crimes in Rivers State. His criminal activities included armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder. He was infamously wanted for the gruesome murder and beheading of a local vigilante known as “Hunter Commander” Mr. Alete in January 2025.
The threat posed by M-Kaze was so severe that a bounty was placed on his head by the former Chairman of Emohua LGA. Residents of communities along the East-West Road corridor had lived in fear for years due to his gang’s operations.
Police Assure Continued Action
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members.
“This operation marks a significant milestone in restoring peace and security to the area. The police remain committed to flushing out all criminal elements threatening the safety of law-abiding citizens,” she said.
The neutralization of M-Kaze has been met with relief across affected communities, who see it as a step toward reclaiming their peace.
