Obi: 2027 Coalition Focused on Governance, Not Political Ambition

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has downplayed reports of a political agreement with Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 elections, stating his involvement in the coalition is solely aimed at combating “bad governance, hunger, and poverty.”

Responding to inquiries from Vanguard regarding alleged plans to serve as Atiku’s Vice President in a one-term agreement, Obi remained non-committal. Speaking at an event in Kubwa, where he made donations to an Anglican Church school and hospital project, Obi stated, “You can make of the report what you want, but I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty.”

This statement emphasizes Obi’s focus on addressing critical national issues rather than engaging in political maneuvering.

Separately, Obi has also clarified the nature of his recent visit to the Vatican for Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration ceremony. He stressed that his attendance was a spiritual endeavor, aligning with his practice of participating in significant global events, and should not be interpreted as politically motivated.

In a statement posted on X, Obi reiterated the spiritual significance of the visit, aiming to dispel any political speculation surrounding his presence at the Vatican.
