Amid escalating political tensions in Rivers State, the South South Youth Initiative has publicly urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara not to resign, asserting that such a move would disappoint the masses who support his leadership.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, the group’s National President, Mr. Saviour Imeabe, criticized the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, labeling it a constitutional infraction. He questioned the lack of accountability for the oil pipeline explosion in Bodo, which was cited as a reason for the emergency declaration.

Mr. Imeabe emphasized that the ongoing protests are not intended to undermine Governor Fubara’s efforts toward peaceful resolution but are aimed at safeguarding the state’s interests. He highlighted the governor’s positive impact on civil servants and the broader community during his tenure.

“We call on His Excellency not to retire at this point in time because millions of people will be disappointed,” Imeabe stated, urging the governor to continue his leadership for the benefit of Rivers State.

The group also called for the equitable utilization of the state’s resources to benefit all citizens, rather than allowing monopolization by a select few.
