Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday paid a surprise courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, amid ongoing political tensions in the state.
The visit was confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his verified Facebook page.
This development comes in the wake of President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, citing a breakdown of law and order due to the prolonged power tussle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a national broadcast, President Tinubu had announced the six-month suspension of Governor Fubara, his Deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. To manage the state during this period, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas was appointed as Administrator.
The crisis in Rivers State has captured national attention, with concerns over its impact on governance and stability in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. The President’s meeting with the suspended governor is now fueling speculation about a possible political resolution or negotiations behind closed doors.
Further details of the meeting remain undisclosed as of press time.
