Today May 16th is International day of a boy child and it is celebrated every year, the day was founded by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a Caribbean academic and activist in 2018.
Raising a boy child with strong values, awareness, and confidence is key to building a responsible adult. Here are some essential things every boy child should know:
1. Emotional Intelligence
• It’s okay to express emotions. Crying or being vulnerable isn’t a sign of weakness.
• Understanding and respecting others’ feelings is a strength.
2. Respect for All
• Respect girls and women, as well as people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs.
• Understand boundaries—physical, emotional, and personal.
3. Responsibility and Accountability
• Own up to your actions, good or bad.
• Understand the value of honesty, hard work, and reliability.

4. Gender Equality
• Women and men are equal and should have equal rights and opportunities.
• Challenge stereotypes that say “boys don’t cook” or “girls can’t lead.”
5. Self-Care and Health
• Know the importance of hygiene, healthy eating, and mental well-being.
• Learn about puberty and bodily changes early, without shame.
6. Consent and Safety
• Learn about consent—not just in relationships but in daily interactions.
• Know how to protect yourself from abuse, peer pressure, and harmful behavior.
7. Education and Dreams
• Believe in your potential and pursue your goals with discipline.
• Education is your foundation; value learning and stay curious.
