A major milestone for education and environmental advancement in Nigeria has been reached, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the Governing Council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoniland, Rivers State.
The university, which was formally established by law on February 3, 2025, is now set to welcome its pioneer students in September 2025. With a core focus on environmental science, technology, and sustainable development, the institution is expected to address the pressing ecological challenges of the Ogoni region and the wider Niger Delta.
Meet the Leadership Team At the helm of affairs is Professor Don Mon Baridam, appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Professor Baridam is a respected Management and Organisational Behaviour expert with deep roots in the South-South and the University of Port Harcourt.
Professor Chinedu Mmom takes the reins as Vice-Chancellor. A seasoned academic in Geography and Environmental Management and former Commissioner for Education in Rivers State, Professor Mmom also hails from the South-South.
