UNIPORT Student Arrested for Allegedly Setting Lover Ablaze in Choba

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 300-level undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Cynthia Chukwundah, accused of setting her lover on fire at their residence in the Choba area of Port Harcourt.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the victim, identified as 32-year-old Saint Amadi from Elibrada Community in Emohua Local Government Area, later died in the hospital from severe burns sustained during the incident.

The police spokesperson said the suspect, who is reportedly pregnant with the deceased’s child, is currently receiving medical attention after also sustaining injuries in the fire.

Iringe-Koko noted that due to her unstable condition, Cynthia has not been able to provide a detailed account of what transpired. However, the Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu, has called for calm and assured members of the public that the Command is committed to ensuring justice is served in the matter.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern, with many in the Choba community calling for a swift and transparent investigation.
