Wike Slams Opposition Coalition, Dares Critics to Show Their Scorecards

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has come out swinging against opposition politicians behind the newly formed political coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Aguma Palace–New Market–Radio Nigeria road in Gwagwalada, Abuja, Wike described the coalition—built around the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—as a desperate move by “displaced politicians” still bitter about losing power.

Wike questioned the timing of the coalition’s emergence, barely 18 months after Tinubu took office and just six months into the actual implementation of his administration’s policies.

“You started forming a coalition when the President had barely spent six months in office? When will you stop deceiving Nigerians?” Wike asked pointedly.
He went further: “They say Nigerians are angry, but I never knew they were this pained that so many things are working in the FCT. Because the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker, and SGF are commissioning projects, they’re upset. They’re the ones angry—not Nigerians.”

“Operation Show Your Scorecard”

The former Rivers State Governor challenged coalition leaders to present their records in office instead of attacking the current administration.
“Everybody must show their scorecard. When I was Senate President, what did I do for my people in Benue or Otukpo? When I was governor, what did I deliver? We’ve been in office in the FCT for just 16 days and we’re already showing results,” he said.

Wike accused former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Senate President David Mark of being part of the group he described as “angry politicians who can’t cope with being out of power.”

“You had the chance to make Nigerians happy while in office, but you failed. Now you’re angry because you’ve been pushed out and you want to come back? You won’t. You will not return to power,” Wike declared.

Atiku in the Line of Fire

The FCT Minister also took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a key figure in the coalition.
“Since 1999, he’s been jumping from one party to another. In 1999, he was in one party. In 2006, another. 2014, he moved again. 2019, he switched again. And now in 2025, he’s forming another coalition. Were you born into coalition?” Wike asked sarcastically.

The fiery speech underscores the growing tension ahead of the 2027 elections and signals that Wike, a key player in the Tinubu administration, remains unapologetically combative in his style of politics.
